Recreation: Coromandel Peninsula hike day trip from Auckland

NZGX hiking and photography group took a spectacular day trip from Auckland trip around both sides of the Coromandel Peninsula. The day trip featured a 2 hour hiking route across the coast accompanied by magnificent rocky landscapes, an awe for the photography students in the group.


Highlights: Cathedral Cove, Coromandel Peninsula, hiking, landscape photography.



NZGXA celebrated the uplift of lockdown with a one day trip to the sparkling east coast of Coromandel. Just a few hours from Auckland, NZGX folks kicked start the day with a sunny morning and also the positive news of lockdown level uplift.


Members gathered at our Auckland meeting point and onboard our bus for a full day of wonder!


Beautiful blue sky and clouds lifted the spirits and mood of our group after a long stressful lockdown.





Picnic lunch stop at Tairua


Driving another 30 minutes leads us to the car park for Cathedral Cove. The view from the lookout was beyond marvelous!


From here we started the 2km one way hike to Cathedral Cove.


Along the way we came across some interesting mushrooms.


The memorial tree was a popular photo spot for the group.

Our performing arts group members even brought along their dance gear and performed some impressive sword dance!



We are accompanied by a glorious sunset as we make our way back to Auckland
