Recreation: Southern Auckland farmland hike

When taking on a hiking adventure, NZGX crew often chooses spots close to coastline with water features (Waitakere Ranges, Hunua Ranges, Wenderholm). But who says farmlands aren't an option?

On 4th March 2017 NZGX hiking crew takes on a new challenge to hike 4 hours reaching to some picturesque green fields and meeting some cute fluffy friends along the way.

Mt William Walkway is 40 minutes drive south from Auckland Central, next to Pukekohe. Here we see some of the largest farmlands in Auckland.

To reach the farmlands, our crew had to hike 50 minutes through a forest area. This area may present some challenges to those with joint problems so we recommend carrying a walking stick if necessary.

Our journey starts at the car park on Mc Millan Road.

Hikers have the option to clean their shoes at the entrance.

While the forest area provides enough shade form the sun, it is still important to wear hats. Once we hit the farmland section, there will be no shades to go under.

Along the way we had to climb over some stairs

Once we've reached the farmland top, we were greeted by magnificent landscape views.
