The picturesque mouth of the Puhoi River, surrounded by forested headlands, is Wenderholm, the first and perhaps still the most beautiful regional park.
Wenderholm contains one of Aucklands best examples of mainland coastal forest.

NZGX hiking crew began the day early at 10AM with the 4.6km perimeter track. The perimeter track provides the ultimate experience of the picturesque landscape and blue waters.
This regional park is ideal for fitness of all levels. However we recommend those with knee or joint problems to bring walking sticks as some parts of the walkway are unpaved and gets rather slippery during wet days.
The walk is mostly under shades with beautiful greenery scenes. There is a lot of native greens and birds, which may be of interest to fauna enthusiasts.
Our favourite section of the hike is definitely the area along the coast, where we get a large open area of beautiful blue water.
Difficulty: moderate
Length: 4.6km
