New Zealand Guangxi Association was honored to invite two special guests to host the COVID-19 special edition Health & Safety for Chinese migrant community webinar.


Guest Speaker 1:

Constable John Zhu, Ethnic and Pacific Liaison Officer

Wellington Central Police Station

Constable John Zhu is one of the early Chinese migrants from Guangxi province, and a member of New Zealand Guangxi Association. Contsable Zhu migrated to New Zealand in 1997 and has worked for the New Zealand Police force for over 14 years. Constable joins our webinar from Wellington, where he currently resides with his family and serves on the Wellington Police Department as Ethnic and Pacific Liaison Officer. Constable Zhu covers key topics including:

  • Racial discrimination assaults arising from COVID-19

  • Common challenges faced by Chinese migrant community in seeking police help

  • Self defense best practices

  • Legality of ownership and use of fire/arms

  • Fraud and scam crimes arising from COVID-19

  • How to report a crime to police

  • How to contact police in your native language.



Guest Speaker 2:




Julia Zhu, Registered Psychologist

Graduated with master's degree in counselling (honour) from the University of Auckland, Julia has been working in both Asian community and mainstream community institutions. Her areas of practice focuses on employment relationships, depression, anxiety, addiction, domestic disputes, relationship disputes, immigration stress. She currently serves as the Service Manager for Asian Family Services. Julia covers the topics of:

  • Understanding negative emotions

  • Understanding differences between feeling anxious vs anxiety, and depressed vs depression

  • Understanding what constitutes as domestic abuse

  • Challenges commonly faced within Chinese cultures in relationship disputes

  • How mental health affects physical health

朱音:广西老乡朱音警官,来自南宁。97年移民新西兰,现居惠灵顿,做了14年警察,目前担任惠灵顿警局亚裔警务联络官。

讲座内容:遵守禁法,安全防范,辨识真伪

Julia:能说流利英语,普通话,广东话。新西兰注册的心理辅导员,拥有奥克兰大学的心理辅导荣誉硕士学位。在过去10年里,他在亚洲社区和主流机构工作,帮助不同族裔不同年龄的人们进行情绪疏导和调节,主要治疗领域包括雇员问题,抑郁症,焦虑症,压力,上瘾问题,家庭暴力,人际关系,和移民后压力。她采用的心里干预方法有人本主义疗法,认知行为疗法和正念法。Julia现在是压抑家庭服务中心的服务主管。

讲座内容:焦虑/恐惧/和焦虑症。新冠病毒引起的压力,恐惧,和焦虑。对应政策。正念和呼吸法。
